The Soul Catcher is a stop-motion animated short film co-directed by Amanda Strong and Pamela Post, produced at Spotted Fawn Productions in Vancouver, British Columbia. Rooted in Tsimshian Indigenous culture and oral traditions, the film explores the spiritual practice of the "blowing shaman"—a healer believed to restore balance by retrieving lost or stolen fragments of the soul.
Combining intricate handcrafted artistry with powerful storytelling, The Soul Catcher brings ancestral knowledge and cultural teachings to life through the expressive medium of stop-motion animation. The film reflects Spotted Fawn Productions’ commitment to Indigenous-led storytelling, cultural preservation, and innovative animation practices.
As Lead Stop-Motion Animator, I worked closely with the directors and creative team to develop character performances and animate key sequences throughout the production. My role focused on translating the film’s emotional and spiritual themes into nuanced movement, helping shape the visual language and storytelling of this richly textured cinematic experience.
